Most supplements for children do not contain enough vitamin-D

Vitamins are important for the well being of an individual as they help in smooth functioning of several body systems. Low levels of vitamin D are common in children, especially during the winter. Deficiency of Vitamin D may leads to rickets and abnormally low levels of Calcium in the blood called hypocalcemia. The main source of Vitamin D is sunshine rather than diet.
Most kids’ multivitamin products don’t contain the recommended daily vitamin D dose. Only a few such multivitamin products have recommended daily vitamin D dose of 400 IU. It was also found that supplements contain only Vitamin D or labelled specifically for healthy bones typically had a higher vitamin D content.
The researchers found 67 multivitamins, made by 24 different manufacturers, and 24 vitamin D/healthy bones products aimed at children under the age of 12. The daily vitamin D dose in the multivitamins surveyed ranged from 0 to 800 IU. Only one multivitamin was suitable for use from birth, supplying 200 IU/day of vitamin D, while for children over 6 months. Some of the products giving a dose range would only supply the recommended vitamin D level at the highest dose. For children under six months of age, only one multivitamin contained more than 340 IU/day vitamin D, but this was only recommended from four months of age.

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Experience Poor Sleep Habits

Many of the babies and children have settling and sleep problems during night. In children, with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), these problems can be more severe than in other children. Several factors have been profoundly affecting the sleep of 2- to 5-year-olds with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). They are more likely to resist their bedtime, have trouble getting to sleep, suffer from anxiety regarding sleep, wake up in the middle of the night, and experience night terrors. It was already known that kids with Autism struggle with sleep issues. It has been consistently found that more than half of them and possibly as many as 4 in 5 have at least one chronic sleep disorder.

Kids with autism were 45 percent more likely to have moderate sleep problems than children with other forms of developmental delay, and the 75 percent of them are more likely than typical kids. Children with symptoms of autism has worse on nearly all aspects of sleep. Only in a couple of areas sleep apnea and daytime sleepiness appear to have about the same level of difficulty as other kids.

Children were divided into four groups: children with a classification of an autism spectrum disorder, children with other developmental delays with characteristics of autism spectrum disorder, children with other developmental delays without characteristics of autism, and children in a general population group. Researchers found that children with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental delays with autism characteristics were more than twice as likely to experience sleep problems as children in the general population group.

Caffeine therapy in Preterm Infants

https://neonatal.pediatricsconferences.com/

Caffeine is the most commonly used drug in NICU after antibiotics. It has been found that early caffeine treatment has no long-term negative effects on Neurodevelopment and is associated with better cognitive scores.

Premature birth is a birth occurring before 37 weeks gestation.  There are many reasons of premature babies, including natural factors and those who are caused by the actions or omissions of healthcare providers.

Caffeine Therapy for Lung Development

Caffeine is a type of drug categorized as methylxanthines. It reduces apnea, where it is a condition in which a baby stops breathing for a series of seconds.  Caffeine has been used in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) for years as a breathing support treatment for babies. Based on the results of the study, it has been suggested that caffeine therapy improves long-term breathing functions by reducing abnormal development or injury to the lungs of newborns.

Negligence resulted in Premature Birth or Birth Injuries

In terms of premature birth, there are some cases involving a complex web of factors contributing to the birth, such as:
    • Maternal conditions like high blood pressure (hypertension), infections or diabetes
    • Maternal history of abortions (spontaneous or elective), premature births, or back-to-back  pregnancies
    • Fetal complications

Some of the therapeutic effects of caffeine include
    •     Prevention of failure of extubation
    •       Higher survival rate
    •     Reduced chance of severe ROP (retinopathy of prematurity – a problem in the eyes)
    •   Lower likelihood of neurodevelopmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy, cognitive delay, blindness, and hearing loss

Babies Born to Older Dads May Have a Higher Risk of Health Problems

Just four decades ago, only 4 percent of infants were born to fathers over the age of 40. Nowadays, that number has crept up to 10 percent. This shift was seen across the United States amongst different races, education levels, and locations.

Babies born to older fathers, says that born babies will be more susceptible to health problems including preterm birth, low birth weight, seizures and breathing problems. Many of the health issues associated with “geriatric pregnancies,” such as low infant birth weight, gestational diabetes, higher odds of preterm birth and high blood pressure for the mother by which it affects the infant development and it may also lead to compilations.

According to the recent studies, they suggest that being a father later in life which leads to be associated with higher risks in genetic abnormalities, offspring of autism and mental problems. Children born to men aged 45 and over had a 14% greater risk of premature birth, low birth weight and had a 10% higher risk of needing breathing assistance and a 28% higher chance of being admitted to neonatal intensive care when compared with babies who born to younger fathers. Further assessment showed that once a dad hits age 35, there’s a slight increase in birth risks overall. Women who is carrying the child of a man aged 55 years or older have a 34 per cent higher odds of gestational diabetes.

After accounting for things like the mother’s age and the parents’ health and demographic information, the researchers noticed an association between paternal age and likelihood of both child and maternal health problems. Significant associations began to surface around age 45, and the data suggest that the older the father, the higher the risks.
